Project Overview

Pyramid Engineering provided services to Judy Coutts, AIA in the design for the new PSU Altoona Communications Center. Included in the project are a video studio, control room, multimedia classroom, audio teaching classroom and an audio broadcast studio. Supporting these functions are several audio, video and multi-media production labs. The facility is located on the 3rd floor of the Devorris Downtown Center on Penn State Altoona’s new downtown Altoona campus.

New energy efficient lighting systems were installed in the altered space with automatic controls. The existing fire alarm system was extended to the altered space meeting current ADA standards. A theatrical lighting control system was provided for the TV studio.

HVAC is provided by roof top air cooled condensing units and interior air handling units and was designed to minimize sound transmission and ambient noise.

A new plumbing system was designed meeting current codes and ADA standards. New fixtures and water coolers were provided. A new domestic water distribution and sanitary piping system was installed and connected to the building main piping systems. A fire protection system was also designed and installed in the space and extended to the main building system.
